Hachem decided to give up his status of PokerStars pro because he wanted to spend more time with his family. While he was part of Team PokerStars, he was traveling very frequently because he had to play in all sorts of big buy-in poker events. When he didn’t re-sign with the site, some thought he might start earning his income via the best Mac poker sites. Instead, he made this most recent deal.

Hachem has entered into a partnership with AsianLogic, a company that runs online casinos and poker rooms for Asia. Hachem is one of many that believe that Asia, Australia, and Australasia are untapped markets with the potential for a poker boom. By signing with AsianLogic, Hachem hopes to represent the Asian Poker Tour and speed up the growth of the game in the Asia Pacific area.

The Asian Poker Tour has been around since 2008 as an independent tournament series. This year they will have events in the Philippines, Macau, and India. Hachem will help promote these events, and it wouldn’t be surprising if he also plays in a couple of them. While it was well known that they had not been paying U.S. customers and were barely paying their small amount of remaining funds to international customers, not much has been heard from or about the company in quite some time. The group is seeking a minimum of $1.73 million in compensation as well as potential punitive damage. The plaintiffs include well known players such as Brad Booth, Dustin “neverwin” Woolf and Thomas Koral. Perhaps further complicating the case is the fact that 6356095 Canada Inc. is dealing with liquidation proceedings in Canada. It remains to be seen how this will affect the new legal problems with the eight plaintiffs.

Between 2003 and 2008 there were multiple cheaters on UltimateBet who utilized a hole in the software that allowed them to see their opponents’ hole cards. While UltimateBet acknowledged this and refunded the majority of this money if not all of it, the plaintiffs are alleging that the losses were vastly underestimated.

Only five spots made the money in this event, however, and the three to miss a payday were Seiver, McDonald, and Brenes. While they made the money, both Negreanu and Duhamel had to settle for 5th and 4th place respectively. This meant that Shak, Blom, and Hall saw 3-handed play.

A cooler caused the next bust: Hall got dealt 99, but Blom was able to hold with AA. This hand meant that Blom had plenty of chips going into heads-up versus Shak. Shak wasn’t able to mount a comeback, and he busted in 2nd place for a healthy $846,700. Congratulations to Blom for winning his first ever major live tournament for $1.25 million!

The PCA takes place on Atlantis Paradise Island in the Bahamas, offering players quite the setting if they’re not in the mood to play any more poker tournaments. In 2011 players on the PokerStars download were given a chance to satellite into the PCA Main Event at the cost of just a few Frequent Player Points (FPPs). On top of that, players were able to start their path at the low cost of $1.10, making the event quite accessible for players. Many of the players in the Main Event now locked up their seats through PokerStars satellites.

This means that $150,000 has already been guaranteed for the eventual winner.

There have been no announcements yet about a player of the series leaderboard but it has been said that one will exist. These kinds of leaderboards have been the cornerstones of past PokerStars series and are great at motivating players to work to lock up the prizes.

One of the big stacks going into the final table was Soi Nguyen, a former November Niner that has enjoyed continued success since his Main Event. He has made several final tables since then.

Joining Nguyen were Andrew Lichtenberger and Vanessa Selbst, a couple established poker pros that have excelled at the highest levels in poker both in brick-and-mortars and on the best US poker sites. Also there was Antonio Esfandiari, who won this exact event in 2010. The lone amateur going into the final table was Vitor Coelho, the short stack.

Luck and destiny seemed to be on James Dempsey’s side. He went to Vegas simply as a favor to his friend and fellow British poker pro Chris Moorman. He didn’t figure on playing the tournament and having a chance to win it, though!

Though Coelho began the final table as the extreme short stack, the first bustout was Esfandiari via a three outer from Dempsey. Coelho was gone just a few hands later, unable to win with 88 in a three way all in pot with his four big blind stack.

Nguyen, Selbst, Lichtenberger and Dempsey settled into a very tough four handed match. Lichtenberger was the first one to bow out as his 88 was unable to beat Nguyen’s 99. Selbst joined him on the rail soon after as her K9 failed to beat Dempsey’s A9.

As heads-up play began, both players had over 100 big blinds a piece. With these stacks, it came as no surprise when Nguyen and Dempsey went at it over 80 hands and 2 hours. Nguyen initially took a big chip lead but eventually suffered from a massive comeback by Dempsey.

In the final hand, Nguyen got it in and found himself very much behind. He couldn’t suck out and had to settle for second place. This meant that James Dempsey was the champion of the Five Diamond World Poker Classic!

Many are pointing towards Martin Staszko’s 2nd place finish in the 2011 WSOP Main Event as a catalyst for the surge in entries, as this event broke the WPT’s record for attendance at a European event. 571 players signed up at €3,500 a piece, which created a giant prize pool of over 1.75 million Euros. That left over 450,000 Euros for the eventual victor.

Russell Carson, known as ‘rdcrsn’ in online poker rooms, was the first bust of the final table. He lost a coin flip early on in the final table, so he had to settle for 6th place. Sigurd Eskelund would join Carson on the rail just a short time afterward as his KQ was bested by Andrey Pateychuk’s JJ.

The remaining four players battled it out for awhile before Benjamin Pollak got the last of his chips in against Adria Balaguer while behind, failing to win, and finishing in 4th place.

Right before the dinner break, Pateychuk really started turning up the heat as he won some big pots. His run continued after dinner as well, as he put a bad beat on Stanislaw Kretz to send him off in 3rd place.

Pateychuk began heads-up play with a small lead but lost a big pot against Balaguer as his AK was unable to hold up against J4 suited. However, Pateychuk vaulted back into the lead by getting lucky with A6 against AJ, followed up by finishing off with Balaguer with A5 against QQ.

Fortune was on Pateychuk’s side as he won his 2nd major title in 45 days along with €468,200 in prize money. Momentum can be a powerful thing in poker as well as life. Pateychuk has tons of it right now as he can add 2011 WPT Prague champion to his resume along with his recent EPT victory in San Remo and his near miss of the 2011 WSOP Main Event final table.

One of the biggest stories to come out of Macau was the fact that Phil Ivey played the event. This was huge news for some since he hadn’t been seen at a live tournament since April of this year. Randy Lew, a member of Team PokerStars Online, was the short stack of the tournament when the final table formed. It looked like he was going to be the first elimination of the final table, as he got it all-in with QQ versus the AA of David Steicke.

Lew decided to run good at the perfect time, however. He hit a queen on the flop, and Steicke found no ace for a re-suck. The unfortunate new owner of a crippled stack, Steicke was unable to double up and was busted in 9th place.

No longer a short stack, the situation was perfect for Lew. He was already well adapted to huge-money situations, so he used his experience to whittle his opponents down and add to his own stack. He ended up knocking Kai Yat Fam in 6th place with TT versus A4.

When heads-up play started, it was between Lew and Jimmy Pan. Lew had the chip lead, but the two players traded the lead back and forth a couple times during the battle. The final hand saw Lew cooler Pan by flopping two pair versus Pan’s top pair.

Most online players know Lew as someone that grinds absurd amounts of PokerStars rakeback, but he is proving to the world that he can also hold his own in the live arena. We look forward to seeing many more wins from Lew in the future!

The final table of this event had 8 players, and the first person to bust was Mario Puccini. Known as Pokerccini online, he put the last of his chips in the middle with KQs. He was unable to outrace A8o, however, and busted in 8th place.

A huge pot involving three players took place a short time later. Pierre Mothes raised preflop, and he was 3-bet by Hauke Heseding. This was followed up by a cold 4-bet jam from Andras Kovacs! If you are a Craps online player, you might not be used to such crazy excitement at the tables.

Mothes could not handle all the bets and ended up folding. Heseding, however, had QQ and called. Kovacs flipped over AK suited and the two were off to the races. Despite turning overcards with a flush draw, Kovacs couldn’t connect with the board and busted in 6th place.

Despite making a good fold, Mothes was next in line to bust. He flopped top two on a monotone board, but Zimnan Ziyard flopped a flush. Mothes couldn’t boat up and was eliminated in 5th.

They say that to make a lot of money playing tournaments, you must be good at flipping coins. Heseding made a strong case for this by getting into another coinflip and winning again. Florian Schleps was the victim, and he was eliminated in 4th place.

John Taramas had a healthy Greek cheering section in the room, and they were forced to have their last harrah when Taramas busted in 3rd place at the hands of, again Heseding. Taramas went all-in preflop with 97s and was called by ATo. He couldn’t hit and Heseding gained even more chips.

Heseding was on a roll, but Ziyard wasn’t intimidated. An entertaining heads-up match ensued, and it seemed only fitting that the biggest hand of the night consisted of a huge Heseding bluff that was looked up by Ziyard. The bluff left Heseding with just 1bb, so his tournament was all but over. Congratulations to the first ever EPT Loutraki champion, Zimnan Ziyard!
