Schedule for WSOP 2012 Released
[13 Feb 2012 | No Comment | ]

The World Series of Poker, the biggest and most famous poker series around, has put out the schedule for 2012. The festivities get started on May 27th, and the last day of play (for the summer) is July 26th. In total there are 61 bracelet events, and there is, as usual, a huge variety to choose from. Poker enthusiasts from around the world will leave the best Euro poker sites for a few weeks as they travel to Vegas seeking a huge score.

Just recently the November Nine was announced as being dead by the WSOP, which was great news to many in the poker industry. What they quickly found out, though, is that it has been moved to October 28th, instead, due to the upcoming U.S. elections. This is pretty disappointing to those that think delaying the Main Event final table is a bad idea.

Perhaps the November Nine detractors will be cheered up by the creation of some brand new WSOP events. The first new event is Event 3, a $3,000 heads-up No Limit Hold’em and Pot Limit Omaha mixed tournament. Then there is Event 6, a $5,000 Mixed Max tournament. Mixed Max features No Limit Hold’em… READ MORE

After months of speculation we now know who is the king of poker for another year. With the usual four month gap passed, the world tuned in to the see the end of the 2011 WSOP. For the first time in the tournament’s prestigious history, there was a Teutonic tinge to the victor.

A huge Main Event field fell before Pius Heinz, crushing all in his path on his march to the title. All this from a man not fancied by any but the most fervent German when the tournament paused in July. This was thanks to him sitting 7th in chips when the play resumed, well behind crowd favorites like Ben Lamb. One of the many players who eschewed patches from the likes of the Party Poker Download.

Lamb fell with three players remaining, the final American player in the event now yhat Heinz and Czech Martin Staszko were left. Staszcko is relatively inexperienced at poker, but has years as a top class chess player behind him. He bucked the trend of recent new players by playing a slower, more deliberate game, compared to the hyper-aggressive style used by Heinz on the best euro poker sites.

Jonathan Duhamel Cashes in at the WSOP
[18 Nov 2010 | No Comment | ]

If you need another reason to use a PokerStars marketing code, have a look at the fact that pretty much every past WSOP Main Event winner is a PokerStars pro. Despite the fact that most of the 2010 final table were representatives of Full Tilt, PokerStars still managed to take it down. Congratulations to Jonathan Duhamel for winning almost $9 million by outlasting a massive number of people, many of whom are excellent players. In fact, the November Nine were mostly professionals that have earned their living through poker.

Duhamel likely takes great pride in the fact that he was the first Canadian to ever win the Main Event. This former finance student dropped out of school in order to focus on money poker sites after a significant amount of success in the online games. He is mostly a cash game player, getting dealt at 18 tables of 6-max at a time. He believes that the cash experience he got on PokerStars benefited him in his victory since it was easy for him to adapt to a variety of situations.

Prior to this victory, his largest live prize did not come in a US casino… READ MORE
