Moon Kim Wins WPT Shooting Star
[12 Apr 2012 | No Comment | ]

When you look at the remaining players at a No Limit Hold’em tournament final table, you rarely if ever pick the lesser known players to win. The experienced players often hold a big edge over them unless there’s a big difference in chip stacks. Even then it can be tough for the inexperienced players to hold off their more experienced counterparts.

However, once in a while the inexperienced players are able to get a leg up on their opponents, so to speak. Some of them come into a final and muster all the effort they can without getting frozen up by the money at stake. That’s what two amateurs did at the 2012 WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star tournament as they outlasted four long-time professional poker players. Instead of making a video poker download, Moon Kim and Ubaid Habib chose to play – and win – a big live tournament.

Kim and Habib entered the major final table toward the top of the leaderboard, putting them in a fantastic position to win some big money at the final table. To win that kind of money they would have to beat out some extremely talented professionals in Americans Joe Serock,… READ MORE

Andrey Pateychuk Continues Winning Streak in Prague
[10 Dec 2011 | No Comment | ]

If you are part of a poker strategy forum, you probably know about the hardships poker is going through in the USA thanks to Black Friday. Poker is thriving in other parts of the world, though. For example, WPT Prague has shown that poker is alive and well in the Czech Republic.

Many are pointing towards Martin Staszko’s 2nd place finish in the 2011 WSOP Main Event as a catalyst for the surge in entries, as this event broke the WPT’s record for attendance at a European event. 571 players signed up at €3,500 a piece, which created a giant prize pool of over 1.75 million Euros. That left over 450,000 Euros for the eventual victor.

Russell Carson, known as ‘rdcrsn’ in online poker rooms, was the first bust of the final table. He lost a coin flip early on in the final table, so he had to settle for 6th place. Sigurd Eskelund would join Carson on the rail just a short time afterward as his KQ was bested by Andrey Pateychuk’s JJ.

The remaining four players battled it out for awhile before Benjamin Pollak got the last of his chips in against Adria Balaguer while behind,… READ MORE

Seidel & Seiver Win Big at WPT World Championship
[23 May 2011 | No Comment | ]

The marquee event in the World Poker Tour calendar is always the World Championship. Well regarded thanks to its ability to bring together winners from this season’s WPT events with anyone willing to stump up the $25k entry fee. The high price naturally leads to a stacked field, with one of the biggest payouts of the year on hand for the winner. The focus on these tournaments is even greater, now most of the U.S. online poker sites have shut their doors. Those Americans still wishing to play must depend on sites like the carbon poker download.

No surprise then, to find the likes of Justing Young and Galen Hall at the final table. Neither could make it to heads up play, but both bowed out with more than $200,000 in cash. The most famous player at the final table, bracelet winner Scott Seiver, found himself playing for the title against fellow pro Farzad Bonyani. Fans were able to watch the entire contest play out via a WPT poker video live stream.

The final hand of WPT Season IX saw Seiver shove his entire stack in with a rivered straight. Bonyani took five minutes to contemplate his monumental… READ MORE
