PokerStars Pro Viktor Blom Scores at the PCA
[22 Jan 2012 | No Comment | ]

Generally speaking, as a tournament buy-in increases in size, so does the skill level of the field. It doesn’t come as much of a surprise that there was a very small field for the 2012 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure $100,000 Super High Roller NL Hold’em event. With only 30 people participating, it was guaranteed that some of the best players in the world were going to be fighting for the $1.25 million first place prize.

There was an optional rebuy in this event, and only two people took it: Jonathan Duhamel and Bill Perkins. Day two saw Issac Haxton start the day as chip leader, but he was unable to make it to Day 3 alive. Do you think the Internet phenom went to his room to make a PokerStars install once he was done for the day?

Galen Hall was the chip leader going into Day 3 with just 7 people remaining. Hall is famous for winning the PCA Main Event in 2011 after beating tournament pro Chris Oliver. He took home $2.3 million for his efforts.

PokerStars had a myriad of pros at the final table: Humberto Brenes, Danial Negreanu, Duhamel, and Viktor Blom. You might better know… READ MORE

[11 Jan 2012 | No Comment | ]

The PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) has become quite the destination for poker players over the past four years. In the past four years PokerStars has paid out nearly $10 million in first place prizes to the winners of the prestigious PCA Main Event. Perhaps the PCA is a big reason why PokerStars has a larger player base than the Titan Poker download.

The PCA takes place on Atlantis Paradise Island in the Bahamas, offering players quite the setting if they’re not in the mood to play any more poker tournaments. The location is quite famous and has even been the location of filming! The James Bond movie Casino Royale was filmed at the Ocean Club on Paradise Island in 2006.

The 2012 PCA started just a few days ago, and it’s shaping up to be quite the series with 41 tournaments over 10 days. Those tournaments include the $10,300 No Limit Hold’em Main Event (which has already started), the $25,500 No Limit Hold’em 8-Max High Roller Event with Re-Entry and the $100,000 No Limit… READ MORE

Randy Lew Represents PokerStars in Macau
[6 Dec 2011 | No Comment | ]

PokerStars is known as one of the best Euro poker sites, but you should also know that they are rapidly becoming one of the best Asian poker sites, as well. They created the Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) not too long ago, and they recently held a tournament in Macau.

One of the biggest stories to come out of Macau was the fact that Phil Ivey played the event. This was huge news for some since he hadn’t been seen at a live tournament since April of this year. Despite the press and the attention, Ivey wasn’t able to go deep and actually busted quite early. Oh well – all the more time for online casino gambling since we hear he really likes Craps ;)

In total there were 575 people registered for the tournament, each paying 30,000 Hong Kong Dollars (HKD). This meant a prize pool of 15,552,600 HKD and 3,772,000 HKD for 1st place, which is a little under half a million dollars at the time of writing.

Randy Lew, a member of Team PokerStars Online, was the short stack of the tournament when the final table formed. It looked like… READ MORE

[4 Dec 2011 | No Comment | ]

Created by the Poker Stars download, the European Poker tour (EPT) has done a great job of bringing poker to different parts of the world. Just recently, the EPT held its first ever tournament in Loutraki Greece. This event enjoyed the participation of 336 players over two Day 1s. The buy-in was €4,400, which meant that first place was a handsome €347,000.

The final table of this event had 8 players, and the first person to bust was Mario Puccini. Known as Pokerccini online, he put the last of his chips in the middle with KQs. He was unable to outrace A8o, however, and busted in 8th place.

A huge pot involving three players took place a short time later. Pierre Mothes raised preflop, and he was 3-bet by Hauke Heseding. This was followed up by a cold 4-bet jam from Andras Kovacs! If you are a Craps online player, you might not be used to such crazy excitement at the tables.

Mothes could not handle all the bets and ended up folding. Heseding, however, had QQ and called. Kovacs flipped over AK suited and the two were off to the races. Despite turning overcards with a flush… READ MORE

Andrey Pateychuk Wins an EPT Title
[9 Nov 2011 | No Comment | ]

PokerStars is known as one of the best Euro poker sites thanks to the European Poker Tour. The 8th season of the EPT just finished in San Remo Italy.

The tourney cost €4,900 to enter, and 847 people participated which created a rather large prize pool of €3,734,694. It meant that the winner of the tourney would receive €680,000. When I think of how much Deal or No Deal online I could play with that money, I get very excited.

When the final table started, Kevin Macphee was the short stack and Andrew Pateychuck was in fourth place. PokerStars Pro Johnny Lodden finished on the final table bubble in 9th place for €45,000. His fellow PokerStars Pro Lex “Raszi” Veldhuis finished in 15th for €22,000.

Presumably card dead, Macphee folded the first 34 hands at the final table. He pushed all in on the 35th hand from the small blind with 56o. Poker pro Barny Boatman knew that he was not strong, however, and made a good call with suited Q7. Macphee whiffed and was busto in 8th place.

The chip leader of the final table was Daniel Neilson at the start, but he couldn’t hold on to… READ MORE
